Melanated Legacy Tours was founded from lived experience,
not just history books. The CEO comes from a deeply rooted Black business family in Oklahoma City that once owned more than 18 commercial properties and helped build a thriving Black economic community. From grocery stores to local businesses, the Mitchell family created spaces where Black ownership, opportunity, and community support could grow together.
In honor of her grandparents, Nash Mitchell and Eldorado Mitchell, Melanated Legacy Tours recognizes the legacy they helped build on the east side of Oklahoma City. Rooted in hard work, vision, and ownership, they were true entrepreneurs who invested in businesses, real estate, land, and community development. Their work represented more than business success. It represented building opportunity and creating spaces where the Black community could thrive together.

As a fourth generation business owner, entrepreneurship and community building have always been a part of the founder’s life. The legacy continued through the founder’s mother, Ivy Mitchell, who carried forward the family tradition of leadership, service, and economic empowerment through Nubian Kings and Queen Beauty Salon and Beauty Supply, serving the community with pride and purpose.
The entrepreneurial legacy also continues through the founder’s uncle, Russell Mitchell, owner of Russell’s Automotive Restoration and Repair, further reflecting the Mitchell family’s long standing commitment to business ownership, skilled trade, and community service in Oklahoma City.
Raised inside that legacy, the founder learned firsthand what Black entrepreneurship looked like at an early age. Some of the earliest memories were inside the family grocery store, learning how to count money beside a grandfather who believed in ownership, discipline, and building for future generations. Inspired by the family legacy of entrepreneurship, the founder also opened her first business as a child, operating a candy shop with her siblings in the back of her mother’s salon and beauty supply store.
Melanated Legacy Tours was created to preserve and uplift the stories of Black entrepreneurship, economic empowerment, and community building while inspiring future generations to continue the legacy of ownership and leadership within our communities.
The story of Nash Gene Mitchell and the Mitchell family legacy is currently in the works and will be presented to the world soon.
